Shaya Henkin and Anna Sarah Wolf

Shaya (or Shia) was born April 1, 1855 on Mogilev, Russia (now Belarus). He was the second-oldest of six children, as far as we know.

At some point, he migrated to Odessa, south of Mogilev on the Black Sea. (Now in the Ukraine.) To read more about Odessa, click here. (Both these links will open in new pages.)

On January 12, 1884, he married Anna Sarah Wolf (Chaja-Sura Volk) in Odessa.

Shaya and Anna had seven children. The first, Joseph, was born in Ochakiv, roughly 100 km west of Odessa. The rest were born in Odessa.

In 1910, Shaya's family started leaving Odessa; some went to Paris, then to the United States. Others went north to Antwerp, Belgium to migrate to the U.S. By 1914, he and his entire family had immigrated to New York city.

Shaya and his family settled there first. but around 1920 - 1922, Shaya and his wife, Louis and his family, and Herman and his family decided to move across the country, to Los Angeles. They spent the rest of their lives there.

Shaya's and Anna's Children

	Joseph was born in 1885 in Ochakov, Russia (now in the Ukraine). We know very little about him, and think he stayed in Russia his whole life.
	Morris was born October 11, 1886 in Odessa. After migrating to New York on June 18, 1913 (travelling by himself!), he met Rose Schwartz, and in 1919, they married.
	Eda (Edith, or Yehudis / Judith)) was born August 23, 1888 in Odessa. She came to America, but we haven't found out when. She met Simon Glembot, and they married, probably in Los Angeles, around 1918 - 1919.
	Louis (Lazar) was born August 7, 1890 in Odessa. On January 17, 1912, he and his younger brother Maxim emigrated from Paris, France to New York City, where he became a trunk-maker. He met Liza Klorstein there and they married. Between 1920 and 1923, the family moved out to Los Angeles.
	Maxim was born November 29, 1893 in Odessa. He married Pauline while still in Russia, and they, with his brother Louis, moved to Paris France, where their daughter Victoria was born. Pauline and Victoria came to New York in June 27, 1911. Maxim and Louis came later, in 1912. We've lost track of this family since then.
	Rose was born October 30, 1896 in Odessa. On March 19, 1912, she arrived in New York City. There she met Joseph Pollock, and they married, probably around 1911. They later moved to Los Angeles, where they lived the rest of their lives.
	Herman (Hymie, or Chaim) was born November 6, 1902 in Odessa. He came to New York with his parents Shaya and Anna Sarah in 1914. There he met Manya Klorstein, who was Liza Klorstein's sister. (See Louis's info above). Herman and Manya married, and lived out their lives in New York.
